WHERE IS BELIZE?

For many years and interestingly enough even today some persons still believe Belize is an Island in the Caribbean or even, that it is located in somewhere in South America.However, we are not. Belize part of the Central American Isthmus and is bordered on the east by the coastline of the Caribbean Sea on the north by Mexico on the South and West by Guatemala. Due to its central location Belize has been considered part of both Central America and also the Caribbean

WHAT LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN IN BELIZE?

The official language in Belize is English, a former British colony. English is the primary language of public education, government and most media outlets. However, the majority of Belizeans, regardless of ethnicity, speak an English-based creole called Belizean Creole (also referred to as Kriol) for most informal, social and interethnic dialogue. It is the only country in Central America whose official language is English, though Belizean Creole (Kriol) and Spanish are also commonly spoken.

WHAT IS THE EXCHANGE RATE?

U.S. dollars are accepted everywhere. Travelers checks are accepted in most places. A service charge is usually made by most businesses for cashing these checks. Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards are accepted in major hotels. Some hotels will accept one or two of these three cards. ASK! Smaller shops and hotels often do not accept credit cards. Be sure to save $30 BZE for departure tax when leaving Belize. The Belize currency exchange rate is $1.00 US = $2.00 BZE

DO I REQUIRE A TRAVEL VISA FOR BELIZE?

All visitors must travel to Belize on a valid passport (non-expired). The passport must be valid for no less than six months after the intended period of stay in Belize.

Nationals of the following countries do NOT require a visa to enter Belize as a tourist for a period of 30 days

  • Citizens of the European Union Member States (EU)
  • Citizens of the Caribbean Community Member States (CARICOM)
  • Citizens of the United States of America and dependent territories
  • Citizens of the Commonwealth Realms & Monarchies

Nationals of most other countries REQUIRE a visa to enter Belize

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN BELIZE?

The climate here is subtropical. The temperature is almost always in the high 80s to high 90s during the day. In the summer, nights are very warm and in the winter there is more relief from the heat with temperatures dropping in to the high 60s and low 70s overnight. There is normally less rain between the months of November and April but there is a chance of rain year-round and especially in the summer.
